Recently I saw a lot of discussion about CAP KIP UAB in this group. I am very interested in this but I am not familiar with appletalk technically. I am interested in "networking" several NeXT machines with a local appletalk network. Right now a MacII is running appleshare and appleshare print server and all macs (including macIIx, MacSe, Macplus and macSe/30) are connected with phoneNet. I also have 2 Zenith 386 running TOPS and TOPS netprint. One of the Zenith and one of the macIIx have EtherNet card which is used to run NCSA telnet. All 4 NeXT machines are on ethernet too. I am interested in printing from NeXT machines to a LaserWriterIINT on the appletalk network. I am also interested in printing from macs on appletalk to printers local to the next machines. ( I do not have one yet, but hopefully will get a next printer.) Now from what I understand, I can install uab and cap on one of the NeXT to be able to do this. I looked at the installation.doc of the cap and noticed I have to have KIP installed first. Then I ftpd a copy of KIP (kip0688)and found I need a Kinetics box in the installation instruction. Now I am confused. Do I need a k-box or not? Looks to me UAB and CAP should be enough to achieve what I want. Can somebody enlighten me, please? Thanks a lot! --yufeng tsui@silver.ucs.indiana.edu tsuiy@jade.ucs.indiana.edu
