Actually, they're purple worms.
You kill them the same way you kill all the monsters in the game (except 
for the dark lord or what ever he is) by throwing, slashing, stabbing etc.
Have your ninjas in the back throw stuff at it.  
Warning:  Be prepared to run!
Hint:  Drop the door/gate on them a few times, this will kill them faster.
