  First, as George Lin said they're purple worms.  I thonk that the
best way to kill them is; try to find a close room or a passage that
you can be shure that nothing would enter with at least one door/gate
(now after I will refer door/gate as door) that you could close/open at will.
  Then make the purple worm fallow you into this place, but don't let them
enter. Step into the room near the door, if the worms are not under the
door throw weapons and magic to them.  If they step under the door,
close it, and don't move into the room! If you do it with the door
open with/with out worms under it, they will follow you and you will
have troubles!
  Stay in near the door until they step back, then close the door to
heal your party, and the sleep to recharge magic to repeat the
process, after finish 'em prepare to a big feast (may be not to big,
but is a feast), because, the purple worm rolls can be eaten.
  You can use the door process with any monster.

TO DUNGEON MASTER FANS:  I wrote to FTL about Caos Strikes Back and
                         told me that they expect to release it for
                         Amiga near Summer.
