This is the same problem that I reported some time ago. It seems to happen (at least sometimes) when one tries to copy a large batch of files onto the disk and there isn't room for them all. The only way I know of to straighten it out is to reformat the disk, or at least to reinitialize the filesystem. I never did get an answer as to what was wrong.
