Several times in the last few months, I was fiddling with getting a
direct connection between my 3b1 and an NCR Tower (also running System V).

Unfortunately, I never got a single response to my many requests for
suggestions (this newsgroup is lacking as opposed to other system newsgroups
where you pose a reasonable question or request, and you eventually receive
some sort of response).  I finally sat down and trial-and-errored it until
I got my L.sys correct.

Anyway: here is my L.sys entry that works (slightly modified):

	system Any tty000 9600 tty000 expect-send expect-send

and, here is my L-devices entry:

	DIR tty000 0 9600

This works ok.
