NOTHING ON THE SCREEN ANYMORE. I was ready to take the thing apart -- suspected a bum power supply. My wife came home and suggested we hook up the monitor to her Rainbow with her cable. Voila! The only problem was in the cable. Lesson -- try something that should be obvious, but isn't always. I have a friend with a spare color monitor, so all is well. BTW -- I'm not sure how soon I'll hook up the color monitor again. Don't do that much color graphics and I find the amber monochrome monitor much more pleasing to (and easier on) the eyes. ++ Amer ++ --- * Origin: Glacier Peak Rainbow, Bellevue, WA - 206/644-8431 (Opus 1:343/3) ------------------------------ Date: 02-21-90 (00:24) To: BOB FULLER Subject: RE: DECPRINTER III From: GARY STEBBINS BF>The only name on the printer was DECPrinter III. I didn't check BF>the back for numbers, though. The stand it was on looked very BF>much like it was part of the printer. Sounds like the LA120-RO (right option?) which is a printer only, as opposed to the LA120-(something else) which is a full terminal (DECWriter). Yes, as Bill Mayhew stated, it should be fully compatible with the Rainbow. It's designed as a heavy-duty printer, and should last a long time on a Rainbow. --- * Origin: Glacier Peak Rainbow, Bellevue, WA - 206/644-8431 (Opus 1:343/3) ------------------------------ Date: 02-19-90 To: DAN LEAVITT Subject: LA-50 OVERRUN PROBLEM From: GEOFF REED DL> I just saw your note about an overrun problem on an LA-50 printer. DL>I too have experienced a similar problem, mine began with a blown fuse DL>on the internal circuit board. I had to install a slightly larger DL>fuse to make the printer work at all, and have since had this overrun DL>problem. I have been using the printer successfully with the Baud DL>rate lowered from 4800 to 1200. The intent being to make the serial DL>output slow enough that the printer can keep up. DL> DL> As to the proper fix, I believe that the Printer Ready/Busy signal DL>is not functioning (its output being shorted might explain the need DL>for the larger fuse.) The fix in this case would be to replace the DL>bad interface chip. There's a file called LA-50.zip here on glacier Peak Rainbow that is a zip of a textfile written by Carl Houseman, he outlined a repair for a bad capacit on the circuit board of a LA-50, which is Usually the cause of the overrun problem. if you can use a screwdriver and soldering Iron, this fix will cost you mabye $0.59 in parts and mabye an hours worth of time. --- msged 1.999 * Origin: StarShip_Inconnu, Cruisin' the Stars (1:343/3.1) ------------------------------ Date: 02-21-90 (16:52) To: ERIC SPEARS Subject: RE: RAINBOW 100A FOR SALE From: DAVID HARDY Hi Eric, I am trying to sell the whole unit complete, w/all software, hardware, etc., sorry... As of today, it has appeared in 2 local want-ad papers and 2 local newspapers for about 6 weeks w/no takers... This is in the heart, more or less, of DEC country, too... I am dropping the price of the whole works to $700.00, and I'd like to see it go to another Rainbow user somewhere, rather than attempt to dump it off at a scrap dealer for the quick cash. As I stated in my original ad, I'd be happy to deliver to any point in the southern New England area for the first $700.00 cash... Thanks for your interest...
