You should try Autosave II from Magic Software, Bellevue, Nebr.

It has some very nice features and is discounted heavy in the MAC
magazines.

I have been using it on a MAC II for many months and it saves me
considerable time when editing large documents.  I use it with about
6 or 7 applications open and it does not interfere with my mainframe or
ethernet connections.

It is not freeware, but it works all the time.

A satisfied user not a commercial.
