Message-ID: Date: 25 Feb 90 23:57:28 GMT Sender: news@parc.xerox.com Distribution: comp Organization: Xerox PARC, Palo Alto, CA Lines: 12 if you've tried installing other adobe fonts on the next, you quickly discover why they include bitmap versions of the standard fonts -- DPS does a miserable job of rendering characters smaller than 36 points from splines. although i haven't played with it, everything i've heard about adobe's new type manager for the mac suggests that it does much better at displaying, say, a 10 point font *without* bitmaps (one of its marketing claims is that you can save disk space by throwing out all your bitmap fonts). why can't the next machine do as well? will this improved technology be included with future versions of DPS? -- .mike.
