I have a small amp and speakers connected to the line out jacks of my monitor.
I recently connected a CD player to the amp with "Y" adapters.  I was 
surprised to find that the signal from the CD player was amplified and 
played from the monitor's speaker.  The volume keys also worked.  I am 
assuming that the line out jacks just come from the input to the monitor's
internal power amp.
