Frankly, I don't know ZIP about these various groups except what I've learned in this echo the past year, but no matter WHAT groups these people are putting down - I consider it a blatant violation of the disAbled person's civil rights to discourage their joining up. As for the "militance" of these groups, I can't see where any of them have gotten two cents worth of action for their constituents, so it's obvious they aren't being militant ENOUGH! Which is not to say, mind you, that I have agreed with everything I've heard by way of demands and political ideas. But they should be HEARD and openly discussed with and by the people most concerned: the disAbled themselves. Gallaudet University did the right thing and I think the effects were quite salutory on the general population. I'm absolutely sure that more people were more aware of the hearing impaired community after the protests at GU than any social action since the release of Children of a Lesser God. -- Uucp: ..!{decvax,oliveb}!bunker!hcap!hnews!202!501.0!Chita.Cazares Internet: Chita.Cazares@p0.f501.n202.z1.fidonet.org
