Custom Software Systems made an _excellent_ vi clone for the PC - I've never seen anything else come close, including Z from the makers of Aztec C. vi is completely compatible, and does handle a few of the nice things rerquired of any editor under MS-DOS, such as optional crlf <-> lf translation (and vice versa) and optionally terminating files with ^Z. It even has text filtering and all the other advanced vi functions. Called vipc, comes in standard ANSI or bios flavours (even uses a termcap), with versions of each for the PC and 186 (or better). I purchased my copy back in January '88, so I don't know what the current price would be. david -- UUCP: ...!munnari!csource!david Internet: david@csource.oz.au FidoNet: 3:632/348
