I am running 2.02 386/ix with the getty supplied with the X5 kernel upgrade kit. I am not using uugetty at all - just getty supporting 4 bi-directional high speed modems without ANY problems at all (of course I am using a smart card - but that has nothing to do with getty/uugetty).
