Much to my chagrin, when I lived in Chicago, the Tuesday New York Times had
no science supplement, which is a source of a lot of fascinating information,
including sources for inexpensive PC hardware and software.  It may be that
you have to be within a few hundred miles of NYC to get the science
supplement.
