SE has faster SCSI port, resulting in much better SCSI transfer. SE has a built in fan, which is very important. You can get internal HD for the SE, which will save you $$$ and be generally better (no separate power supply to break down) SE has a slot, for whatever it is worth. In total, SE seems to perform about 30% faster. If you don't care about speed at all, the Plus is functionally equivalent
