As far as I can figure out, PENWORKS is just a driver to use the tablet in applications like MacDraw. I was hoping there would already be some public domain software since I am sure others have wanted to do the same thing. I had a similar problem, but solved this by finding a more generic digitizer that would normally attach to a PC or another computer of your choice and instead hooking it up to the Mac serial port. Then normal x,y coordinates were input to the Mac (which is running the telecommunications program of your choice). This probably doesn't help you, but there might be a non-Mac digitizer within your grasp for use in this type of situation.
