Actually, we don't have a 3030, but I can verify that

dd if=/dev/tape conv=swab | tar -xvf -

will READ Sun tapes into an Iris 4D/20.  The same command, with the device
changed as appropriate, reads Iris tapes into an IBM 530, which leads me to
believe that it is fairly general.  Give it a try.  The '-' after -xvf is
in fact important, and easy to forget.
