I'm trying to get the psfig preprocessor running and ran into a problem
with our local variety of ditroff. It doesn't know about the \X escape
which allows one to pass device controls through to the postprocessor.

This is a Berkeley version of ditroff, but since \X isn't mentioned anywhere
in Kernighan's original paper on ditroff I assume this is a later addition
and should be available as a patch somewhere.
