The Aldus forum on Compu$$ere has a Developer's library which includes a
package of TIFF manipulation routines.

You can also call up Aldus developer services and they will sell you the
TIFF spec and the same routines for a nominal sum ($35??).

Aldus is up there in Washington State somewhere, sorry I don'
t have the number to hand.

One semi-useful element of the tools package is a TIFFDUM4.EXE program
which dumps out a TIFF file and prints error/warning messages.  Surprise!
every TIFF file I've ever seen generates warnings.
