I'm looking for hints on high-order/smart graphics packages that will
work on X, something along the lines of SunCore and SunGKS.  For what
it's worth, we'll be using X on Mach on Suns.

I'm told PHIGS would be a good choice, but Sun tells me that PEX is a
year away for X11R4.  I believe PEX is available for R3, but I hate to
stick with R3 for a year.  Is PHIGS available from any other vendors
to work on X, or by bypassing X and interfacing with the Sun frame
buffer? 

Any other alternatives?
