I am working on a utility to convert xwd-format files to color PostScript.
I am currently making some design choices about what is done in PostScript 
on the fly vs. in C at time of conversion.  Right now, I use PostScript
to do run-length encoding and colormap translations (which saves time
transmitting the bitmap over a 9.6kb serial line).

If anyone out there has something that does this already, I'd like to hear
about your work...
