I'll probably never know. RPL is one of the worst abuses of portability I have ever seen. There are pointer mismatches *everywhere*, errno is assumed to be defined by errno.h, and assumptions are made all over the place as to the availability of include files and what path constants are defined. I gave up after 20 minutes of working on it. "rm -rf rpl". Authos, *please* beta test your stuff before announcing "It will work." and posting it to a zillion sites. I'll bet that 95% of the sites that get RPL won't use it because it is so unportable.
