I tried reseating the chips, resoldering the power supply connections, and lots of other things and it didn't help. I bought a XT/AT 200 watt power supply. Magic, my 500 hasn't reset for no apparent reason for 6 months now!!! And now I can run three external floppy drives. It used to reset as many as 20-30 times in a day, but it works fine now. A local repair shop told me that once a power supply starts to reset your machine like that your old power supply is useless for your computer. Even if it could be repaired it is cheaper to buy a new heavier duty supply.
