I noticed that incoming mailboxes (i.e. the /usr/spool/mail/<username> files) are
not being made the property of the specific user.

In other words...a "chown <username> /usr/spool/mail/<username>" needs to be
executed for each user mailbox that exists. 

Is sendmail supposed to do this for you?

Why is this? 

I am running 10.1 bsd4.3 sendmail.
