So far the only thing I've seen is the book. If I find any machine readable document I'll post information here, and have it available for download on Glacier Peak. -gary- --- * Origin: Glacier Peak Rainbow, Bellevue, WA - 206/644-8431 (Opus 1:343/3) ------------------------------ Date: 03-10-90 (09:38) To: DAVID HEID Subject: RE: LA100 PRINTERS From: TONY BUSTOS Hi. Before looking at the hardware end, try using RESPORTS, which resets the AUX and PRN ports. If you can't get it at Glacier Peak, try SF DEC at (415) 981-3325. Hope this helps... --- QM v1.00 * Origin: ; (1:102/139.0) ------------------------------ Date: 03-10-90 To: ANNETTE MISKIMENS Subject: LQP03 SWITCHES From: FRANK MALLORY OK, here are the switch settings, looking at them from the front of the print ^^^^vvvv ^vv^v^vv I had assumed that the switch blocks were marked, as on the LA50; but I see they aren't. Also, the switches are reverse of what you would expect (i.e., switch block 2 is leftmost). Hope this lets you get it into operation. --- msged 1.99L MSC * Origin: Silver Bullet - Silver Spring, Maryland - 301-622-2247 (1:109/123) ------------------------------ Date: 03-09-90 (21:49) To: ALL Subject: LA 50 ADVICE NEEDED From: BOB FULLER Just aquired an LA 50 that works fine excpet for the following. Setport: when using the SETPORT program, my screen reads that the LA 50 is not on (it is) and the SETPORT changes are not made. Feed: single sheets are not fully advancing, line by line. Seems the patten is not gripping the paper firmly enough. Would appreciate any suggestions on how to overcome these challenges. --- * Origin: Glacier Peak Rainbow, Bellevue, WA - 206/644-8431 (Opus 1:343/3) ------------------------------ Date: 03-10-90 (07:43) To: GEOFF REED Subject: RE: MS-DOS 3.X FOR RAINBO From: DAVID MAROUN I have used the Rainbow MS-DOS 3.10, and my remarks were about it. It IS slow, it DOES use far too much memory and disk space, and I do not like it! The operating system is a gimmick to get you to buy more hardware. You can get the effect of a large hard disk partition with MS-DOS 2.11 by appropriate use of the PATH command, possibly supplemented by the public domain DPATH program--that is, if you are want to use those huge programs that MS-DOS has spawned. Even people in the business admit that a 10 megabyte hard disk is adequate and they are pushing the bigger ones only to keep in business. That remark has appeared in computer newspapers. A 32 megabyte partition does not make sense with a smaller hard disk. I do much of my computing on a Tandy Color Computer which has no disks at all. I know that I do not need a fancy operating system and huge disks to write letters or keep track of personal finances. --- * Origin: Glacier Peak Rainbow, Bellevue, WA - 206/644-8431 (Opus 1:343/3) ------------------------------ Date: 03-10-90 (13:59) To: DAVID MAROUN Subject: RE: MS-DOS 3.X FOR RAINBO From: CARL HOUSEMAN re: MS-DOS 3.xx written in C? Significantly slower? When you upgraded, did you happen to leave out BUFFERS=20 in your CONFIG.SYS? What in tarnation are you talking about? I've used both versions on IBM-PCs and Rainbows, and while there is a small increase in memory requirements (about 12K, as Geoff said), if much of the o/s as written in C, you'd see a BIG increase in memory usage. MS-DOS 3.xx was definitely NOT written for 80286 class machines. There is no significant speed difference on the Rainbow (the system I have most experience with) and the differences between Rainbow & IBM as far as 90% of the o/s code goes is nil. Perhaps you're thinking of OS/2! --- * Origin: SYS$OUTPUT BBS * Library, PA * 412-854-0511 * (Opus 1:129/38) ------------------------------
