The 48 uses Kermit, not XMODEM.  Objects can be transferred to/from a PC
in binary or ASCII, with the 48 having a translation option to translate its
special characters into common PC characters, like \<< for the program quote
or \-> for the right arrow.  In short, any PC will do.
