Strange, but true: getlogin() returns NULL with X11R4.

The manual for getlogin() states that it retrieves the information
from /etc/utmp, so what the X server has to do with it is beyond me.

Symptoms include the fact that "who" works, "whoami" works,
but "who am i" doesn't.  If you try to run "talk" it exits immediately
with the humorous :-( message "You don't exist. Go away."

Do I have to wait for HP's R4 server and hope it works then?  Does
anybody else see this behavior?
