If 386MAX is anything like QEMM, the DOS4 parameter should ONLY be used if
you are using DOS 4.00.  DOS 4.01 fixed the bug which that is designed to
counter.

QEMM 5.0 can.  Use 
install=c:\qemm\loadhi.com /tsr c:\dos\fastopen.exe
or something similar.  I'm not using my computer right now, so I can't just
call up the CONFIG.SYS...
