Perhaps it was a limited time only promotion.

I got SP and WordFinder together on a separate disk packed with the
Word disks.  Also, regular user manuals for both SP and WF were
included, as well as a coupon for a $50 upgrade to SP 2.  (I just got
a mailing from the SP publishers repeating that offer).

Also, this was an upgrade from Word 3.0 as opposed to a direct
purchase of 4.0 from a dealer.
