I was that "someone", and it _is_ true, provided you are using version 6.0 of the LaserWriter drivers (which I believe came with 32-bit color QuickDraw). You can also see the same effect on a greyscale monitor or by putting a color monitor in a greyscale mode. I would guess that as far as printing goes, this applies only to PostScript printers. ImageWriters, DeskWriters, etc. probably still produce only black and white for colors, but I've definitely seen colors rendered as shades of gray on a LaserWriter with the right driver. -- Kurt W.
