Subject: Apple to drop low-end Macintosh line

     In a surprise move today, John Sculy announced that the low-end
Macintosh systems would no longer be produced.

     "They're just too dang soft," said Sculy at a news conference this
morning.  "Their place in the market is slipping, primarily because they
just don't hold up over the long run."

     Another factor was worms, according to top management at Apples, Inc.
One source, who asked not to be named, said, "It's too expensive these days
to guard against worms and other infestations.  It can ruin a whole system,
and businesses just can't afford that."

     In addition to pushing their higher-end products, Sculy said that
they would place more emphasis on their GS line.

     "We don't think enough has been done for our greener, sweeter series
of Apples.  They have the capabilities desirable in both business markets
and K-12 educational cafeterias."

     The changeover is expected to take place at the end of this year's
harvest, Sculy said.
