The problem was I used Fresh Start to load the init. Fresh Start lets you keep inits in a folder called "Startup Documents", which is itself in the system folder. The problem is that, once loaded, SunDesk must be in the system folder at restart or shutdown time, otherwise there will be a crash. This is true whether or not you use Fresh Start, and is not limited to just the IIci. To see this for yourself, just try moving SunDesk into another folder and restart. Certainly a bug, and a strange one at that (why should it matter where it is at shutdown time?).
