I am trying to use X11R4 (with at least the first two patches applied, I
am told) on a sun 3/60 running 4.0.3. X was compiled with cc. 

When I try to start uwm it complains that it can't open unix:0.0 (i.e.
the value of $DISPLAY). Some code of mine, which ran fine under X11R3,
gives the same complaint when I call XOpenDisplay with a NULL argument. 
If I try to open hostname:0.0 it takes longer to fail, but the failure
eventually occurs.

What am I doing wrong? Permissions on some device??? This must be easy,
so please relpy by email and I'll post the answer; if all respondees
say that it is trivial I won't post an answer.
